Process Paper
My choice of researching the Rise of the Ku Klux Klan was a very easy decision because this year I was able to take part in a production titled, Continuing the Legacy. This show uses dance and movement to share the history of African American's acceptance to our society throughout the period of slaves and the Underground Railroad, all the way up to modern day. To make this show a believable experience our choreographer separated us into two rooms and treated us as if we lived through the times of segregation. This experience opened my eyes to what Black and White people went through, especially during the late 1800's and the early 1920's. Therefore, I thought it would be helpful to research what was the cause of the terrorist group, the Ku Klux Klan, to help further my understanding of what can never happen again.
I began conducting my research through local databases. To my surprise I was able to find a handful of political cartoons, journal entries, and newspaper articles dating all the way back to the early 1900's. I also found modern day studies on the physiological aspect of racism and terrorist groups and how that linked back to the Ku Klux Klan. I furthered my research by going to the library and finding books on the Women of the Ku Klux Klan and how their role was portrayed.
I decided that a website would be the project that made the most sense because then I can share the videos, cartoons, journal entries, and articles all in one place while keeping it organized and brief. To create my website I used www.weebly.com which allowed me to pick from all different layouts and formats to create the perfect website.
The Rise of the Ku Klux Klan was a huge turning point in American History because the Klan brought a new extreme form of racism and furthered it beyond just the racism of African Americans. They vocalized their hatred toward Christians, Jews, and natives all at once which had not happened all at once in American History at that point. The Klan also had a tight grip on the political aspect of our country which changed the views of American values and the society itself.
